There are now fourteen additional ALPHABETIC CODE FRIEZE POSTERS - EXTRAS.
Six can be found in unit 2, and eight can be found in unit 3.
I have suggested that it is very helpful to teach that single vowel letters can be code for long vowel sounds by the end of unit 2. You can also find some special posters for this at the end of the Mini Posters strand in unit 2.
Now, however, there are extra Alphabetic Code Frieze Posters as follows:
In unit 2:
/ai/ as in table
/ee/ as in emu
/igh/ as in behind
/oa/ as in yo-yo
/yoo/ as in unicorn
/igh/ as in fly
By the end of unit 3, you can emphasise the doubling of consonant letters. In short words following single letter, short vowels, you usually find 'ff', 'll', 'ss', 'zz'. These are special cases. Examples include 'cliff', 'shell', 'glass' and 'jazz'. (Common exceptions are 'bus' and 'gas'.)
In words with short vowels ending in other consonant letters, there is no doubling - for example, 'bed', 'crab', 'dig'. (Common exceptions are the words 'add' and 'egg'.)
In multi-syllable words, however, consonant letters will double following short vowels phonemes and preceding various endings:
/b/ as in rabbit
/d/ as in muddy puddle
/g/ as in juggle
/m/ as in hammer
/n/ as in car bonnet
/p/ as in puppet
/r/ as in arrow
/t/ as in letter
