New Sounds Book Activity Sheets with Texts - Unit 2

Post by debbie »

We've added two sets of optional, additional Sounds Book Activity Sheets with Texts in Unit 2 today.

You can find them in the section with the creamy-coloured background - immediately beneath the original Sounds Book Activity Sheets.

This first new set of 6 focuses on 'pronunciation alternatives' for the single vowel letters a, e, i, o, u, -y. This will support the 'incidental teaching' of sounding out single vowel letters as their 'short vowel sounds' at first and if that does not make a 'real word', then try the 'long vowel sounds of /ai/, /ee/, /igh/, /oa/, /yoo/ and /ee/ - and /igh for letter '-y' at the end of words.

The second set of 3 focuses on 'spelling alternatives' for the sounds /ai/, /oa/ and /igh/. These include the split digraphs a-e, o-e and i-e which are not formally introduced until Unit 6. It may be fine to introduce learners to the concept of split digraphs, however, a long time before reaching Unit 6 in the programme.

Both sets of new Activity Sheets with Texts may be too much for the youngest of learners - in which case simply bear them in mind to use at a later stage as appropriate.
