Is your child's school promoting multi-cueing strategies?

Dr Farrow flags up his four year old's reading book - and reveals the kind of multi-cueing reading strategies which are not supported by research.

There are many parents who are aware that this is not in line with either the research itself - or with the prevailing guidance on reading instruction provided by the government.

The Systematic Synthetic Phonics teaching principles and the Simple View of Reading are now embodied in the new national curriculum for English (Sept 2014) - and schools should not be promoting the kind of strategies you can see in this four year old's book:

Please email me at debbie@phonicsinternational.com if you are a parent and your child is being taught by these multi-cueing methods - I'll devote this thread to demonstrating that the teaching profession in England does not share a common professional understanding - and this is very worrying and, quite frankly, unaccountable.

This may make a significant difference to many children - and it is not an acceptable state of affairs.

The kind of reading instruction that children receive in their schools - whether for beginners or slower-to-learn children should not depend on the 'chance' knowledge (or lack of) or beliefs of the teachers.
