I maintain that every classroom should have an alphabetic code chart where the English language is being taught and used!
We should understand the notion of 'the alphabetic code' as much as we commonly understand what is meant by 'the alphabet'.

This is the handout I produced for the 'breakout talk' at the RRF conference:

I am promoting:
'The Two-Pronged approach to Synthetic Phonics Teaching - Systematic and Incidental'
I highly recommend it!
And the Alphabetic Code Chart as a key visual aid supports this two-pronged teaching.
Read all about it!

This is a video clip on the Oxford School Improvement site where there are many great video clips of 'top tips' of leading educationalists in the UK.
The link above is: 'The Difference Between The Alphabet and The Alphabetic Code'
Ofsted links to this video clip for its latest long-distance training material for Ofsted inspectors.
It would be wonderful indeed if Ofsted fully recognised the significance of the Alphabetic Code as a core visual aid in every classroom.
(See www.oxfordschoolimprovement.co.uk for lots of great advice.)
