Government match funding extended in England to end of Oct

Great news - not only has the match funding been extended until 31st October 2013, in addition the match funding is now being offered to KS 2 schools with no KS 1 (nfants) - in other words, for junior schools and for middle schools.

At last - and then let's hope we get some funding for the secondary schools!

In my opinion, the whole teaching profession should be knowledgeable about the alphabetic code and the core phonics skills.

The actual 'perception' of phonics needs to change from it being considered as 'abc baby stuff' to 'phonics is adult stuff'.

Even many adults don't appreciate that phonics is 'adult stuff'. They may have deduced the alphabetic code (or some of it) subconsciously and not even be aware when they apply it for reading and spelling! It becomes a sub-conscious thing for most adults who are literate.
