114. These monitoring inspections focus solely on the quality and effectiveness of phonics training in primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) partnerships and are undertaken as part of the ITE inspection framework introduced in January 2013. Inspectors will focus on trainees’ skills in teaching early reading using systematic synthetic phonics.
