Synthetic Phonics Training:
two-day professional development courses to teach
reading, writing and spelling in English

Course 1: 29th and 30th May 2013
Course 2: 28th and 29th August 2013

UK phonics experts Debbie Hepplewhite and Abigail Steel will provide a two-day professional development course on synthetic phonics teaching based on the Phonics International programme and the Oxford Reading Tree Floppy’s Phonics Sounds and Letters programme.

This two day training event will:

    • Explain the synthetic phonics teaching principles in depth and why they provide the best way to teach reading and spelling in English
    • Explore the relationship between decoding text, language comprehension and literature (the Simple View of Reading)
    • Enhance your English alphabetic code knowledge and pronunciation of the sounds (phonemes) and how best to teach phonics both systematically and incidentally
    • Provide opportunities to discuss how to incorporate best practice synthetic phonics into your specific teaching situation

Testimonials from our 2012 Summer Course

"Thanks for a great 2 days. I enjoyed every minute of it and feel more confident now with PI. Regards to Abigail and thank you both again for organizing and carrying out the course. Do more!!....keep up the great work and I'll spread the synthetic phonics as much as possible here in Spain"

"I am totally committed to securing Phonics International throughout our school and hope to use this as the training ground for my NPQH next year - management can be so frustrating when it's all so close and yet some teachers just don't get the bigger picture! Still this is a brilliant tool that not only will benefit the children, parents and school but also enhance my leadership skills - THANK YOU SO MUCH"

"Just to say how much I enjoyed and learnt from the event. Having been involved in tutor/training at a staff college previously I could not fault the delivery of your programme."
